“Whenever I want a thing, and my wife wants another thing, and we decide upon the thing that my wife wants--as we always do --she calls that a compromise” explains the narrator in Mark Twain’s short story, “The Burglar Alarm”
That is what Gen.Musharaf means when he talks of compromise. India and Pakistan must overcome their burden of history and take bold and tough decisions to address the core dispute of Kashmir, he says. Otherwise, there will be more Kargils.
And, what’s a fair compromise?
If India says it won’t give up Kashmir ever, and Pakistan says we must give up Kashmir, and if we end up giving up Kashmir, then according to Pakistan it is a ‘compromise’ and a ‘realistic approach’.

I cannot come to terms that Musharaf was allowed to tour (and lecture?) in India after his Kargil venture. Big mistake.
ReplyDeleteNice analogy. But I prefer to think of Pakistan as a spoiled brat in need of proper thrashing instead of wife. ;)
ReplyDeleteMusharraf is a good-for-nothing rogue. Pakistan wants to keep stoking the Kashmir issue to hide its own inefficiencies in running its country. India for them is the big bogey they raise whenever they are unable to answer tough questions about terrorism, unemployment, poverty, inflation or just about anything.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, the Kashmir issue needs to be resolved! How is the big question!
Raj,
