“British passengers on the Titanic died in disproportionate numbers because they queued politely for lifeboats while Americans elbowed their way on, an Australian researcher believes.” Source ( via Tyler Cowen).
Do you still believe that Indians should emulate the British and form orderly queues, Ms. Taru Bahal?
I think it still helps to be orderly. The most people die in unruly stampedes in temples in India because they panic and run down everyone in their confusion. I think as a nation we can progress much more if we are courteous and more civil to each other on the roads and in public places.
ReplyDeleteBtw, having lived in the US, I have to say they are extremely cultured and well mannered. Maybe, they have come a long way since the days of the Titanic :)
The logic is simple. The Britishers were 3rd class passengers who were coming to America to earn their living. They were not let on the upper deck.
ReplyDeleteThe Americans were people who were holidaying in Europe, and were on the upper decks.. (higher class).. and hence could escape.
Further, the lower deck passengers were apparently not allowed in the upper decks... Only Leo made it through.
